NHL 2K6 is an ice hockey simulator developed by 2K and published for the Xbox, PlayStation 2, and Xbox 360 consoles. Goaltender Marty Turco appears on the cover of the game sold in the United States, while forward Mats Sundin is featured on the cover of the game sold in Canada and Europe.
The game incorporates all the features of the previous year's game, ESPN NHL 2K5, along with some new additions. However, the main Hockey Night in Canada broadcast team of Bob Cole and Harry Neale replaces the main ESPN/ABC broadcast team of Gary Thorne and Bill Clement as commentators. It includes a new "area control" system, which allows the player to control their team's goaltender and make crucial saves. It is the first game to implement the NHL's new penalty shootout system as the default, and the first ice hockey simulator released for the Xbox 360.
